Obituary for Lawrence Donald "Don" Parker

Don was born in Hartman, Arkansas, to the late Albert Monroe and Roxanne (Smith) Parker on April 9, 1935. Don served his country in the US Marine Corps during the Korean War. He was a member of the Coal Hill VFW. He married Shirley Parker on February 19, 1959, in Alix, Arkansas. He worked for Kawneer Alum in Richmond, California (1959-1964), Ozark Hardwood Lumber Company in Clarksville, Arkansas; Handford Produce in Clarksville, Arkansas; Parker’s Grocery in Coal Hill, Arkansas; Water Superintendent for Coal Hill Water Department; School Bus Driver for Coal Hill/Westside; Maintenance Supervisor for Coal Hill Housing. He retired at the age of 65.

Don was affectionately referred to as Papaw or Grandpa Parker by his grands and great-grands. He was happy and caring, yet a stubborn man. He was known in great distance for his Black Diamond Watermelons. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, and gardening.

Don is preceded in death by his daughter, Carla Dawn (Parker) Williams; his parents; great-grandson, Zachery Blaze Parker; his brothers, James Monroe Parker, David Leroy Parker, Teddy Gene Parker; his sisters, Dorothy (Parker) Scarberry, Evallena (Parker) Lane, Eila Faye (Parker) Green, Georgie Onita (Parker) Lanceford.

He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Shirley L. (Hanson) Parker, his son, Larry Don Parker (Judy) of Hunt, and his daughter, Tracy (Parker) Mears (David) of Harmony. Grandchildren, Brandon (Kristal) Parker, Leah (Tracy) Brown, (Hank) Michael (Sundi) Williams, Jill Parker, Cody (Misty) Parker, Dakota (Nelly) Parker, Jayce Parker, Morgan (Brock) Smith, Katie Estes (Duane), 23 great-grandchildren, and nine great-great-grandchildren. Brother Dane Parker of Hartman, sister Hilda (Parker) Ross (Kenneth) of Oologah, Oklahoma, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation is from 1 p.m. until 2 p.m., Friday, November 3, 2023, at the Hardwicke Funeral Home Chapel in Clarksville, Arkansas.

Funeral Services are at 2 p.m., following the visitation, with Reverend Gina Hamlin and Reverend Amos Pledger officiating. Burial will follow at Hess Cemetery in Coal Hill, Arkansas. Pallbearers are Larry Don Parker, Tommy Dean Hanson, Randy Muldoon, David Mears, John Burke, and Wesley Kendrick. Honorary Pallbearers are grandkids, great-grandkids, and great-great-grandkids.
