Obituary for Henry Seth Arnold

Henry Seth Arnold was born in Lamar, Arkansas, on July 8, 1938, to Howell C. and Daisy Lollis Arnold. He departed this life at his residence in Lamar, Arkansas on May 14, 2023. Seth, who claimed to be 30 minutes older than his twin Beth, attended Lamar school and graduated with the class of 1956. Seth loved to roller skate and became very good at it. He met Vivian Dare, the LOVE of his life, at a rink in Russellville. They soon became skating partners which developed into a life partnership lasting 65 years.

Seth and Vivian were married on December 22, 1957, at The First Assembly of God Church in Russellville, Arkansas. In their early years, Seth followed his lumber and furniture manufacturing employment to West Plains, MO, Fort Smith, Searcy, and Clarksville. He and Vivian moved home to Lamar around 1970, and he continued his involvement in the lumber business, eventually forming Arnold and Sons, which manufactured pallets and other lumber products.

Seth loved being a cattle farmer. He spent much of his time checking on and working with his stock, enjoying every minute. He loved to sing as he raked hay, and used his "tractor time" for thinking and reflecting.

As their sons built families of their own, Seth and Vivian became PaPaw and MeMe, welcoming their grandchildren and later great-grandchildren, whom they doted on.

Seth grew up attending Lamar Methodist Church with his family and was a member of Methodist Youth Association. He was a founding member and very active in the Lamar Jaycees for a number of years. He served several terms as a member of the Board of Education of Lamar School District. Seth Arnold completed his career in the Lamar School system as a bus driver and In School Suspension supervisor where he influenced the lives of many students.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his grandparents Harley and Mattie Jones Lollis and Henry and Sallie Baskin Arnold. Also, preceding him in death were his oldest sister Helen Arnold Overbey and her husband George Wilson Overbey, Sr., younger sister Charolette Sue Arnold Warren and her husband Harold Dean Warren, nephew Ransy Massengale, and brother-in-law H. L. Stumbaugh.
