Obituary for Carol Yates (Marvel)

Carol Marvel Yates was born January 16, 1937, at the home of her maternal grandparents, George and Donna Conway, in the Springhill community of western Johnson County, to Orville and Lorene Marvel. She eagerly left this world on June 24, 2022 in Clarksville, with her loving family by her side. She now resides in Heaven with our Precious Savior and her husband "Jeep."

1954 was a great year for Carol, as that is the year, she graduated from Hartman High School and also married the love her life, Lavon "Jeep" Yates. After their marriage, they moved to Coal Hill where she lived for most of her remaining years. She lived In Kansas City for a time where she worked for a telephone company. They moved back to Coal Hill and she worked at the court house for the county extension agent. While working there, she decided to start attending college. She attended the College of the Ozarks (University of the Ozarks) in 1963 and graduated Summa Cum Laude with a teaching degree in 1967. Her first teaching job was at Lamar. After a semester, she took a job at Coal Hill, initially in the elementary school, then moving to the junior high, and then into the high school, where she coached basketball for a year and taught math until 1983 when Coal Hill and Hartman schools consolidated. From 1983 until her retirement in 1995, she taught math full time. Teaching was her calling and she influenced many children throughout her 26 years in the education field.

Carol was a member of the Hartman United Methodist Church, a past member of the Johnson County Regional Hospital Board of Directors, and one of the founding members of the Coal Hill Booster Club.

Carol was an avid sports fan, as well as an active participant in her earlier years. Her favorite sports teams were the Arkansas Razorbacks, St. Louis Cardinals, and whoever her kids, grandkids, nieces, and nephews played for. She loved to travel-it didn't make much of a difference where to. She loved to putter in her flower garden and she dearly loved her cats-all 9 of them. Most of all, she loved spending time with her family.

Carol was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 64 years, and her brother, Billy Orville Marvel. She is survived by: daughter, Karen Cremer, and son, Kent Yates (Paula), grandchildren Joshua Freeman (Brandi), Zachary Cremer (Ashley), Colby Yates (Audra), and Kayley Yates. She is also survived by the lights of her life, great grandsons, Elijah Cremer and Pierce Yates. She also leaves behind her sisters, Eva "Babe" Chrisman and Georgianna Patterson (Robert).

Arrangements are under the direction of Hardwicke Funeral Home of Clarksville. Visitation will be at Hardwicke Chapel from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Wednesday, June 29, 2022. Funeral Services will be at Hartman United Methodist Church at 10 a.m., Thursday, June 30, 2022 with Pastor Gina Hamlin officiating and Robert Patterson assisting.
