Obituary for Barbara JoAnn Massengale

Barbara JoAnn Massengale was born on July 2, 1940, in the community of Fernwood, Arkansas. She was raised on a farm in the Johnson County River Valley with her parents, Garland Bennett and Della Mae Ross Bennett, and two sisters, Norma Jean Ricco and Sue Watson.

She met the love of her life, Arvin Massengale Jr. “Junior,” when she was fifteen and was married for 49 happy years.
Over the years, “JoAnn” lived in Farmington, New Mexico, and Clarksville, Arkansas, with Junior, and her three children, Terry Wayne Massengale, LeCleta Massengale Aitken, and Sheila Massengale Thomas.
She earned her cosmetology license in her mid-twenties and styled hair for over fifty years. She also worked alongside Junior at the AMJ Machine Shop and owned a small herd of cattle.
She was a longtime member of the Clarksville First Baptist Church and worked in the church library for many years as an avid reader.
She was a committed Razorback fan of all sports, listened to the Cardinals baseball team play on the radio, and loved the Clarksville Panthers. She enjoyed watching her grandchildren, Scotty Massengale and Brittany Massengale, compete in swim meets and band competitions, Barbara Aitken Jenkins compete in horse shows and cheerleading, Trace Thomas play baseball and basketball, and Jaxon Thomas play baseball, basketball, and football.
JoAnn was a lover of Gospel music and piano playing and was the West Mt. Zion cemetery committee past president.

Above all else, JoAnn loved her family. Her children and grandchildren were the light of her life.
She went to be with Jesus peacefully in her sleep on Sunday morning, November 13, 2022.

Visitation is from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Wednesday, November 16, 2022 at the Hardwicke Funeral Home Chapel in Clarksville.
